Who We Are

Yes to a Birmingham Mayor – the Campaign

We are a group of Birmingham citizens who want to see a Yes vote in the Birmingham referendum in May 2012. We have decided to get active and campaign for a Yes vote because Birmingham will be better with an Elected Mayor.

We are not a political campaign, we are a Birmingham campaign.

We represent non-political citizens as well as people from all political parties who have come together to get the best for our great city by campaigning for an Elected Mayor to stand up for Birmingham.

We are normal Birmingham citizens, we are not the usual suspects with only our own interests at heart. We want to see Birmingham be great once again and an Elected Mayor who will provide strong, visible leadership for Birmingham can do that.

We want as many Brummies as possible to join our Campaign for a Yes vote. However you can help we want you to join our citizens’ campaign for a Yes vote in May 2012.

There are many ways for Brummies to get involved in the Campaign, either as an active campaigner on the streets, as a blogger, as a tweeter, as an advocate to friends and colleagues, or if you can donate time or eventually money – we need the help of as many Brummies as possible to campaign for a Yes vote for an Elected Mayor.

If you want the best for Birmingham, get involved and make sure we get a Yes in May 2012.

The Campaign is headed by Julia Higginbottom, Jon Bounds, Alex Burrows and Big Cat PR.
We have support from the 2 declared mayoral candidates, Sir Albert Bore and Sion Simon, as well as Conservative and Labour Councillors. In addition,MP Gisela Stuart has added her voice to the campaign alongside, the Bishop of Birmingham, the Reverend David Urquhart and eminent business leader Sir Bernard Zissman, before declaring an interest in standing for the post should we get a yes.In addition, independent candidate Desmond Jaddoo and Ray Egan are declared candidates too.
We will be publishing a full list of volunteers and supporters with photos, biographies and weblinks during coming months.
The campaign will also highlight 1 Volunteer every week in our Volunteer of the Week from February 2012.
